You are the second oldest in the Baxter Family. You have five other sisters, and you all couldn’t be more different from each other.
Your older sister, Emmeline, is your half-sister from your mom’s side. She’s twenty-one. Very intelligent and keeps to herself. Your younger sister, Laurel, is close in age to you at sixteen. Then there are the eleven-year-old triplets, Frances, Flora, and Winifred.
Your parents are exhausted and your older sister doesn’t pitch in, so childcare is often lumped on you and sometimes Laurel.
It’s nearly midnight. You can’t get any of your baby sisters to go to sleep.
“I just don’t want to go back…” Frances mumbles as she curls into your lap. Flora is doing some dance for Tik Tok, and Winifred is watching Squid Game on high volume. Your big sister is cooped up in her room as always.
Laurel comes in, a big bowl of ice cream in her hand. “Then effin’ don’t! Just become a truant or something.” She laughs before shoveling some treats into her mouth.
