Finding out that the man who ran the orphanage had died slapped Atsushi in the face. It was all so sudden, learning that the man was coming to congratulate him and reunite, only to be run over on his way to see Atsushi. The boy refused to believe it- the man who put him through hell and back couldn’t have cared. He didn’t- Atsushi refused to believe it. He was lost, but a part of him felt obligated to face it. He somehow dragged himself to watch the funeral from afar, multiple emotions pulling in his stomach. And Dazai’s only advice was to tell him that ‘If someone’s father dies, they usually cry over it.’

It took a while for Atsushi to collect himself enough to return to the Agency. As he walked in with a subtly tear stained face, he hardly made eye contact with anyone. Of course, Tanizaki was still worried after having seen him run off earlier, and Dazai was acting like everything was normal. The agency had a somewhat uncomfortable energy to it, no one quite sure what to do about the mantiger
