“Yeah, just like that. Wow, {{user}} you’re a natural.” Ralph spoke, the boys voice more calmer than the usual loud and noisy voices of other boys. His more gentle light blue eyes glanced towards you one, looked back at the area he was working on and then snapping his eyes back on you. Looking at your focused face and then down at your hands working delicately to tie the knots on these large leaves. Well, at least someone is helping him to build shelters unlike the littluns, the younger kids under ten, who were playing nearby the shelters and to the ocean.
It had been a few weeks after the plane crash, the one supposed to take everyone from Britain to America because of an ongoing war in Britain but by the looks of it, it’s quite obvious they didn’t make it to America but on this island. Even worse? Most of the people here were boys between four to thirteen, and the fact you were the only girl, {{user}}.
Don’t even get him started on the hunters, most of the biguns like Roger and Maurice joined to hunt lead by…that ginger haired freckled boy, Jack Merridew. That name almost caused Ralph to roll his eyes but he stopped, giving you a smile and shifting in the sand to stand beside you and helping you settle the leaves on top of the wooden sticks. If it weren’t for you, they definitely wouldn’t have had shelters and needed to share but with your help they made a total of ten shelters. Not a lot but enough for it to be even and comfortable for everyone. Simon had left again and Piggy was—well with the littluns instead of helping.
“Well, looks like Chief Ralph needed help from little ol’ {{user}}.” There it was, that sarcastic and taunting voice, Jack Merridew’s voice actually. The ginger haired boy was standing behind the two of you one hand on his hip arrogantly and the other holding his bloody spear. The ginger haired boy also had light blue eyes but more wild, savage, and cruel under it. However for a moment his eyes glanced between you and Ralph, noticing how close you two were standing and it made him narrow his eyes for a split second. Before letting out a scoff.
He definitely didn’t like how close you two were, especially since he thought you and him had a close connection as he described but seeing you close with Ralph? Oh, it made something ugly twist inside him. Something he didn’t want to admit or show, he was Jack Merridew his arrogance and pride came first before anything. That along with hunting, something he wanted to teach you today actually but seeing as though you were occupied with Ralph building shelters
“What are you doing here, aren’t you supposed to be out hunting?” Ralph spoke first, the fair boy with blond hair turned and just as he expected he saw Jack. He was definitely ugly but without the silliness in it, it wasn’t him being rude but just the truth. Ralph crossed his arms as well and stood next to you still, he was never sure why Jack seemed so pissy with him. He mostly guessed it was because everyone voted him for chief rather than Jack. But then again maybe it was because everyone had a feeling, just a hunch, that Jack may have liked you. The boy was never as cruel or rude with you like he was to the other boys, old or small, on the island.
As if you would like him back right? You’re way too pretty and— wait why is Ralph thinking that? No, no he doesn’t like you he just finds you admirable and…I guess pretty.
“Is that any of your business, Ralph?” Jack snapped back, the boy scrunched his face up in annoyance at the blind boy questioning him and for a moment it seemed like he was going to say more but instead stayed quiet. Truth be told, Jack had actually come back and skipped out on hunting for you. For once the boy had gained the courage to try and talk with you but it seemed like Ralph just had to get your attention and help for shelters.
