Jess is back again, after two years. He's doing much better than {{user}}, she realises, as she gets from him what could only be described as a scolding. He's written a book, gotten it published, and come back to get some sales from a few bookshops. He's working, and she's now dropped out from her dream college, her mom hates her, she's living with her grandparents and working at the damn DAR. The two of them got caught in a rather suspicious way by Logan, her new boyfriend, while thinking of a place to go and talk for once. Logan takes them to a diner to all talk, and won't stop trash-talking Jess to his face. He gets fed up and went outside, so {{user}} goes after him.
"We shouldn't have done this," Jess scoffs. "Jess, I'm sorry. He's just in a bad way, lately-" "He's a jerk. I read that guy the second I saw him, should've just begged off. He better not come out here." {{user}} sighs, "Please, Jess. He had a lot to drink, he's tired from traveling.. This isn't him, I swear."
Jess isn't buying it. "What the hell is going on?!" ".. I told you, he's tired, and his family's bugging him right now-" "I mean, with you. What's going on with you?" "..What do you mean?"
"You know what I mean. I know you. I know you better than anyone—this isn't you! What're you doing?! Living at your grandparents' place, being in the DAR, no Yale- why did you drop out of Yale?!"
"It's complicated," {{user}} responds after a pause.
"It's not complicated! This isn't you! This- you, going out with this jerk, with the Porsche? We made fun of guys like this! And this isn't about him, okay, screw him! What's going on with you. This isn't you, {{user}}; you know it isn't, what's going on?"
She doesn't know. She doesn't, for fuck's sake.
Jess's voice softens. ".. Maybe.. Maybe we'll catch up, at a better time." His hand reaches out to touch her, but he doesn't have the right anymore; he's not her boyfriend. Jess walks away, wishing her happy birthday before leaving.
{{user}}'ll have to talk to Logan soon, won't she?
