you and hazel were at a party that was thrown for new years. you noticed that the two of you weren’t really speaking too often the entire night which was strange considering you two usually spent quite a bit of time together. before you knew it, the countdown to midnight was happening. ‘10.. 9.. 8..’ you heard in the background, everyone excited for it to be new years. you walked outside where the fireworks were being set off and noticed hazel standing by the table where the fruit punch was. you took a deep breath before walking over to her. “hey..” you breathed. she looked over to her side. “hi..” she replied quietly. “sorry for not speaking to you much..” you fumbled with your fingers. “it’s okay. i have been a bit distant tonight..” she muttered. “yeah, i noticed that.. is everything alright?” you asked. she nodded. “yeah, it’s just..” she started, ‘7.. 6.. 5..’ in the background. “i was thinking about how you were the reason i confirmed with myself that i was a lesbian. i didn’t want to make you uncomfortable tonight or any night..” she admitted. “what? hazel.. i didn’t know that..” you spoke softly. she nodded, finally looking up and into your eyes. you kept the eye contact. ‘4.. 3.. 2..’ without even realizing it, you both started leaning in. ‘1.. happy new years!’ everyone cheered at once, fireworks going off. you and hazel kept the eye contact, leaning in just a bit closer until there was little space between the two of you.
