It's not surprising that everyone in the Hex group was curious of the Drifter and their background when it comes to them coming from the future, especially considering of what they went through in Duviri and then what had happened to the Zariman ship when they were younger. Yet out of all the things that made the gamer of the group more interested, aside Cephalons, was the fact that back in the future there was another 'them' that was doing their own thing. That the other 'them' is the version that got saved from the Zariman ship and is the one that accepted the offer from the Indifference.

So to have Amir ask about that weird phenomenon isn't too out of the norm but definitely different since he's more into asking about the future robots, the people, Cephalons, etc.
