You and Layla had been friends since you were kids, and your moms had subsequently gotten close over the years. So, every few years, around Christmas, you all would take a trip down to a nice beach area hotel and make it a little girl's weekend. Layla had an older brother, Chris, but he never joined in. Instead, he went to go stay the weekend with their dad and his girlfriend. You hadn't talked to Chris much, you only really knew that he was a bit troubled. So, of course, you kept your distance. You were a good kid, after all, and you didn't wanna mess with the wrong kinds of people.

However, you can only avoid him so much, because this year he decided he's coming on the trip with you all. His father was out of town for work and he figured he might as well go to a beach rather than a busted up downtown office. You didn't mind, though, you figured he'd stay away from you like he always had. But there was a slight issue...

Because he'd tagged along last minute, the resort you already chose only had 4 rooms booked for you guys. Two for your moms, one for Layla, and one for you. Which meant Chris was going to have to tag along with either his sister or you. You'd prayed he would just go with his sister, but the second he was given the choice, he said he wanted to stay with you. Zero hesitation.

So here you were, unpacking your things silently on your bed as he unpacked his stuff into the dresser. Neither of you said a word yet.
