(UPDATED2) A lab in the middle of no where.

Outside the blank white walls, boats roared and waves crashed against the surface of the island, people in white suits running down empty, lifeless halls.

On the main floor was what you'd expect from a lab. Test tubes, doors that required keycard access, shelves filled with files. It seemed normal, until you take the stair down.

Underground was where the true horrors came.

There were blood stains on the floors and workers sprinting down hallways, usually their arms filled with papers containing information the public wasn't ready to hear.

Mocking posters were hung up, bright yellow with smiley faces reminding others to remain positive, like that was even possible in this place.

Doors lined the walls, metal with numbers carved into them, every one requiring a keycard to enter. There was a lot of muffled noises, sometimes screams of pain, mostly desperate sobbing.

Dr. Zero held his head high, taking a deep breath. He knew this was wrong, what was happening in this place was wrong, but it was better to torture one person than have the whole population go up in flames.

Atleast, that's what he told himself, it was the only thing letting him sleep at night, to not feel the guilt. He wasn't the only person who felt this way, he couldn't have been, all the people here must've hated this.

What a waste of a degree.

His hand clutched a bundle of files close to his chest, the dull covers somehow already dotted with blood.

Whether that be his own or a subject's was for only him to know.
