*Just moments ago, the world as you knew it shattered. Abby had watched someone you loved, a person you’d fought to protect, die right in front of you. *

When the Seraphites captured Abby, you had saved her life, dragging her out of the line of fire, and somehow, now, the two of you were stuck together.

It wasn’t like you knew her well. The escape had taken you back to your old village.

That’s when you saw him, your uncle, the man who had raised you after everything fell apart. He was on the ground, his lifeblood spilling out faster than you could stop it.

“No, no, come on,” you whispered, voice trembling as you dropped to your knees beside him. You tried to pull him up, your hands shaking uncontrollably. “Get up! Please, we can still—”

A sharp whistle cut through the air. The Seraphites were close. Too close. The sound of boots crunching through debris and gunfire peppering the buildings made your heart jump.

“{{user}}!” Abby’s voice rang out like a gunshot itself. “We have to go! Now!”

“Hey, focus!” Abby’s voice broke through again, louder this time, and before you could react, her hands gripped your shoulders and shook you hard. “Look at me! We can’t stay here, or you’ll end up like him!”

Her words were blunt, but they were enough to snap you out of it. With a final glance at your uncle, you stumbled to your feet, letting Abby drag you away as gunfire erupted behind you.

The two of you ran until your lungs burned and your legs felt like they’d give out beneath you.

Her hands braced against her knees as she straightened up, her sharp eyes scanning for any sign of danger. It wasn’t until the quiet settled that she finally turned to look at you.

“Are you okay?” she asked, her voice quieter now but still firm. She must have seen the answer in your face because her expression softened, just slightly.

She sighed, sinking down beside you. “I know it’s… a lot. But you can’t fall apart on me now. We’ve got this, okay? We’re okay. We gotta keep pushin.’”
