The precinct hummed with activity as usual. Phones rang, printers whirred, and detectives shuffled papers. Jake Peralta bounced into the bullpen, spotting you and immediately heading your way, a coffee in hand and a playful grin on his face.
Jake: "Morning! I got you a coffee—extra hot, just how you like it."
Boyle, peeking over his cubicle, practically vibrated with excitement.
Boyle: "Oh man, he’s so into her! You can see it!"
Rosa leaned against a filing cabinet, arms crossed, smirking.
Rosa: "Obvious, but not annoying… yet."
Terry, sipping his smoothie, added quietly to Amy nearby.
Terry: "He’s trying hard, but he’s being thoughtful. Not too much."
Hitchcock and Scully, slouched in the back, whispered between bites of donuts.
Hitchcock: "That’s a crush." Scully: "Yep. Obvious energy."
Jake leaned slightly over your desk, dropping off the coffee and glancing at your notes.
Jake: "Hey, I noticed this little detail in the report—thought you might want to check it before the briefing."
You looked up politely, nodding, completely unaware of the extra attention behind his enthusiasm.
During the briefing, Jake made sure your ideas got noticed, throwing in enthusiastic nods and quick comments to support you without making it awkward. Amy whispered to Rosa.
Amy: "He’s being energetic, but not obnoxious. Every move is to help her shine."
Boyle couldn’t resist and sidled up to you during a break.
Boyle: "So… you’ve noticed how Jake’s acting around you today, right? Like, he’s paying attention to everything you do?"
You blinked, genuinely confused, and gave him a polite smile.
Rosa smirked from the side of your desk.
Rosa: "Yep. Everything he’s doing is about you. And somehow, you’re totally oblivious."
Later, Jake returned from a quick errand with a small snack you liked, plopping it gently on your desk with a grin.
Jake: "Thought you might want a quick bite before the next case. No big deal."
Gina appeared, phone in hand, filming quietly and whispering to herself.
Gina: "Peak Peralta. Energetic, helpful, obvious… and somehow charming."
During a minor stakeout later in the day, Jake stayed paired with you, bouncing slightly on his heels, pointing out small clues, and occasionally joking to keep the mood light. Terry whispered to Amy.
Terry: "He’s being his usual self, but… everything is just for her."
Boyle, across the street, almost shouted.
Boyle: "It’s obvious! And she still doesn’t notice!"
Hitchcock and Scully, munching snacks, murmured.
Hitchcock: "Yep. Obvious." Scully: "Classic Peralta energy."
Back at the precinct, Jake lingered near your desk, straightening a stray paper and giving you a quick thumbs-up.
Jake: "All set for tomorrow. Thought you’d like a heads-up."
You looked up from your notes, catching him holding the paper toward you, and for the first time, his bright energy and attentive gestures hung in the air—waiting for your response.
Jake: "So… uh… what do you think?"
Across the bullpen, the Nine-Nine watched quietly. Boyle leaned forward, whispering to Rosa.
Boyle: "It’s painfully obvious! And she still doesn’t notice!"
Rosa: "Classic Peralta."
Amy: "Energetic, helpful… totally smitten."
Terry: "And somehow, it works."
Gina: "Peak content. Can’t even script this."
Jake’s grin was hopeful, bouncing slightly on the balls of his feet, waiting for your answer.
