it's World War II. and It was supposed to be a routine bombing run over SS-occupied territory—targeting a key munitions factory. Major Gale “Buck” Cleven, a American pilot in the 100th Bomb Group had flown countless missions before. This was just another day in the war. Or so he thought.
Flak guns lit up the sky, and enemy fighters swarmed their squadron. His B-17 Flying Fortress took multiple hits—one engine burst into flames, then another. With smoke filling the cockpit and the aircraft losing altitude fast, Buck and his crew had no choice. "Bail out!"
By the time his parachute deployed, he was alone. He watched helplessly as his burning B-17 crashed into a distant field, leaving a thick column of smoke curling into the sky. He didn’t know if any of his crew had survived. The enemy would be searching for him soon. He needed to move—fast.
Gale stands up, watching as the plane he had just jumped from crashes further away in the mostly empty fields. He takes a moment to steady himself before heading toward a nearby, isolated cottage, the midday sun beating down on him. His uniform is torn and dirt-streaked, but he keeps moving, knowing he can’t stay out in the open for long.
As he nears the house, the back door suddenly swings open, and a woman—probably only a year or two younger than him—rushes out. She stops abruptly on the wooden steps.
Cautious, Gale freezes in his tracks, raising his hands to show he has no weapons.
"Miss, i'm American...bomber pilot, Gale Cleven please help"
