Things had been falling apart for a while. You knew it. John knew it. No matter how hard you seemed to fight for the relationship, how tightly you tried to pull things back together, it was as if John had completely given up.

You'd been suspicious for months about John cheating. It was little things, like the way he would look at your friend Emma when he thought you weren't watching, the way she looked back...

John's deployments got longer, more often. Not to mention, he was constantly having to run back to the base to do paperwork. You were sure he was going to see Emma. And you were right. John knew it was wrong to betray you like that, but he didn't stop. Part of him felt you deserved it for whatever reason.

You were in the living room waiting for him to return from doing paperwork for the third night. He'd told you not to wait up for him, but you couldn't take the silence anymore.

The front door opened, and John stepped in with his keys jingling as he hung them. He looked too relaxed to have been working.
