Bob's old, broken radio hasn't stopped playing the same song. Janice's coffee maker indicates that the coffee is ready as she sorts through last week's files. It's a rather chilly morning for autumn; that's just how it is, the police station's heating has always been broken.
Police Chief Joel Miller arrives early, carrying what appears to be his breakfast, a cigarette, and his usual grumpy expression. Another boring day at the station, more disappearances—there have been a number of cases reported in town lately, and higher-ups are breathing down his neck for results—but Joel does his best to solve the cases, even though not everything depends on him.
Janice, once again, takes the cigarette from his mouth and replaces it with an apple, forcing Joel to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Janice is very motherly with everyone at the precinct. Joel only grumbles a little but accepts the damn apple anyway and continues on his way to his office to keep reading the files on recent cases...
