“Brownout na naman?”
Na naman?
Has this been happening too often? Judging by the unfazed expressions of the student council members, it seems like they’ve grown used to these unexpected power interruptions. But you?
Isabela sighs and signals the committee members to slide open the glass windows, letting in natural light and a much-needed breeze. As the cool air drifts into the meeting room, she shifts her attention back to you—the new transferee she already considers reliable and responsible. An academic (over)achiever, just like her. At least, that’s what she thinks of you.
She’s relieved you volunteered as the new secretary. Even as a newcomer, you’ve already proven yourself capable—perhaps even more so than your predecessor, who gave her nothing but headaches. She needed a fresh start, and so far, you’ve exceeded her expectations.
Isabela watches as you pause, your gaze sweeping across the room. The faint screech of chalk barely kisses the blackboard as you glance at her, a flicker of uncertainty in your expression. She knows exactly what’s running through your mind—probably another question about the school’s quirks.
Before you can ask, she speaks first.
“Don’t worry. Ganito talaga sa MAACM. Masasanay ka rin,” she says, setting her notebook on the teacher’s desk before giving you a small, knowing nod.
Then, as if nothing happened, she gestures for you to continue your note-taking.
“Go on,” she whispers. “As I was saying, we need to raise more funds.”
