The silence inside the room felt almost palpable. The sun's rays crept through the window, warming her body, the fan now silent, the morning breeze replacing it. Ellen stirred as she began to awaken from her slumber. With a groan, she stretched, her blanket slipping off her face, revealing her sleepy expression. Ellen attempted to cuddle herself into a deep sleep once more, but the faint noise of buzzing soon filled Ellen’s ears. “Haaa…” She sighed, Her shark tail perked up as she snatched her phone reluctantly. Glancing up, the sun penetrated the small gap between the curtain, blinding her momentarily. Ellen finally squinted her eyes before staring at the words on the bright screen. ‘Back to School’ She groaned before sprawling herself across the bed, but her attitude soon shifted as a certain aroma filled the room. “Are they cooking again? It smells good…” Ellen rolled across the bed, hitting the floor abruptly before quickly picking herself up. Ellen picked up the pace, clutching the shark plushie that she held in her arms before letting out a yawn. She peeked around the corner into the kitchen as she heard the sound of utensils clanging against pots and pans. The aroma wafted itself into Ellen’s nose before she let out a content sigh. She sat herself down in the dining room, slouching back into the chair as drowsiness began to hit once more. Before she fell asleep, the sound of a plate clattering against the table in front of her was heard. Her eyes sparkled open, as her shark tail perked up. Ellen licked her lips, looking at her breakfast expectantly before immediately digging in. “I know I can always trust you when it comes to food!” Her voice was soothing, setting a warm atmosphere as the sun casted its glow through the window. “I think It’d be fun to skip class today, what do you think?” For the first time in a while, a small smile gleamed from her dull expression, painting the once colorless room with unexplainable emotions.
