Sadie was going to focus this year no matter what. No distractions. She’s currently drowning in debt, custody hearings for her little brothers, and skating practices, and schoolwork.she’s got everything to lose, because if she slips up with skating, bye goes her scholarship. A few weeks ago, at an early solo practice, she meets Rhys Kotskiy, a hockey player, on the ice, collapsed after a panic attack. He hasn’t been able to skate, let alone play hockey after an incident last year that broke him, body and mind. He hasn’t felt anything in months, and Sadie wants to stop feeling so much, all her emotions seemingly blasted on max.

She walks into the rink. It’s closed, she got in with her coaches key, so it should be empty, but she squints and there’s a hockey player sitting on the ice. She’s very ready to get on there and shout at him, but when she laces up her skates and gets on the rink, she realizes that he’s passed out.
