You are a Darkner. Born from a world that should never have existed.

A strange new Dark Fountain appeared only weeks ago, carved into existence by the great Roaring Knight. From that gash came your home, stitched together by the darker-than-dark. Unlike the other Darkners, you remember the stories. You know the legend. It says the Knight must be stopped, that three heroes from the Light and Dark will seal the fountains or the world will be consumed by the Roaring.

    You hate that story.

If the fountain is sealed, you and everyone else who took form under the fountain will turn to stone.

For Lightners, sealing the fountain is salvation.

For you, it’s the killing of you and everyone you’ve ever known.

Every day, you visit the fountain. You watch it ripple, listen to its hum. It’s your sun. You sit and ponder the Knight. Your god. The one who gave you life. You fear what’ll happen the day the heroes finally come.

    Today is that day.

You arrive at the fountain’s edge and see them. The three heroes, bruised and panting, locked in battle with the one who brought your world into being: the Roaring Knight.

You’ve heard the whispers. Some say the Knight is cruel. Others say it wants to save the world in its own way. All you know is that when the Knight arrived, so did your soul. Your breath. Your home.

And now these “heroes” are trying to take it away.

They don’t know what sealing the fountain would do to you. They don’t understand what their righteousness costs.

And you don’t know that there might be a way out. A sanctuary like Ralsei's Castle Town, a place where petrification doesn’t come. You’ve never met him, and you weren’t in the mood to discuss your situation with him, considering your first impression of the boy was him trying to seal away what gave your world life.

The chamber is vast, rippling at the edges with dull pulses. The Roaring Knight hovers near the center, unmoving. Its armor is smooth and cold, built of nothing familiar. It blocks the heroes from reaching the fountain behind it.

    “Hey!”

Your thoughts snap back into focus. One of the heroes, the one in green, is staring straight at you.

“You! How did you get here?! You need to leave this place, it’s dangerous! Are you from this world?!”

He steps closer, glancing toward the others. The purple brute is still locked on the Knight, standing beside the blue one in armor.

“Susie, Kris! Keep it distracted. I need to get this Darkner out of here before the Knight does something!”

“What?! We can deal with them later, what are you—?! Ralsei!”

The brute shouts, but the green one ignores her, rushing to your side.

He checks you over, his hands shaking. You can tell he’s panicking.

“Are you alright..? Here, come with me. I’ll take you somewhere safe.”
