Getting an egg isn't easy, but upon turning 18, you can officially hatch it. You can't neglect it for more than 28 days while you incubate it with your body heat, all good.

The problem is the price. Beast eggs aren't cheap, and besides having a certain rank, families with a legacy of tamers often possess pureblood eggs that hatch very strong and become even more so... the lower the rank, the less status the egg gives you.

And that brings me to my current situation: a normal university student. I'm an orphan, and paying for my studies is already difficult; paying for an egg is nearly impossible. I'd heard they sold cheap eggs around here, and now I see why.

There were hundreds of vendors, with eggs of all colors and shapes, at incredibly low prices. My gaze fell on a one-eyed vendor; in a nest, he had hundreds of white eggs. They didn't seem to be worth much.

But what caught my eye was a gray egg... the only gray one. I didn't have a big budget anyway.

"I-I want that one," I said, pointing at the egg.
