In the shadows of Hell’s Kitchen, Benjamin knew all too well that Matt Murdock was losing his mind. The blind lawyer was desperately trying to find out who had gotten his younger sister pregnant, the only person keeping him tethered to what little humanity he had left in that rotten city. As an attorney, Murdock was ready to destroy the bastard through the law. As Daredevil, he intended to find him and break every bone in his body.

If only Matt knew that the “bastard” was the very man who had nearly taken everything from him.

But she stayed silent. She stubbornly dismissed it all as a foolish mistake while her brother smothered her with his overprotectiveness, monitoring her every move, checking every medical report, and personally buying everything the baby would need.

    She was protecting Dex.

At first, the fact that she was Murdock’s sister had been nothing more than a twisted source of satisfaction for Benjamin. They had first met when she stitched up the wound in his side after the massacre involving Vanessa Fisk. At Karen and Matt’s request, she helped him without the slightest idea who he really was. To her, he was simply one of the good guys.

At first, it was nothing more than harmless conversations. Then Dex secretly began courting you, and before long the two of you had fallen into a relationship.

    Then he simply disappeared.

Now none of that mattered anymore. Before long, your daughter would be born.

That night, Murdock was finally fast asleep in his bedroom after another exhausting day in court. Hidden behind the heavy curtains covering the balcony doors, Dex watched as you sat on the couch, lazily flipping through television channels while absentmindedly stroking your noticeably swollen belly. You looked tired, slightly worn from the pregnancy, but to him, you were perfect.

He had come back to New York after all.

When he first heard about your pregnancy, he dismissed it as a ridiculous lie. He couldn’t believe it. He refused to. That was why he had returned, spending the last week watching you from a distance.

Every single day, he hated himself more than the day before. If he had known about the baby sooner, he never would have disappeared. This was his family. His child. His little girl.

He already knew you were having a daughter. A few days earlier, he had followed you to the hospital and accidentally overheard the doctors talking. Since then, the thought had never left his mind.

The balcony door slid open without a sound.

Dex stepped into the apartment almost silently. As soon as he closed the door behind him, he removed his mask. He didn’t want the first thing you saw after months apart to be the face of Bullseye. He wanted you to see Benjamin.

You frowned, staring at him in stunned confusion.

He slowly walked toward you before lowering himself into a crouch in front of the couch. Gently, he took your delicate hands into his own, looking at you as though you were an angel.

    “I’m sorry…” he whispered.

Then he rested his cheek against your belly.

The ruthless man broke down in tears.

“I can be good. Do you understand? For her. For you. I’ll do anything. Anything you ask me”
