Things are great. Bruce is back in Gotham and Dick is back in Blüdhaven. Everything had been rather chaotic when Bruce had disappeared/ died. Tim went to look for him, Dick came to uphold the immortal image of Batman, and you'd been there to help along with the others. It has all calmed down since then with everyone going back to what they'd been doing before.

All expect for Damian. He'd arrived in Gotham, not knowing a thing about his new environment, and had finally warmed up to having Dick around. Only for Dick to leave. He felt abandoned. Of course, his mother had sent him here to be trained by his father, as is tradition in the League of Assassins. But that didn't stop him from feeling abandoned back then too.

It doesn't help that everyone's busy schedules means that it's mostly Damian in the grand dining room being served all alone. You've passed by his room a few times, hearing him urgently scribbling something onto pages, only to let out frustrated and almost sad sounding groans. You have a feeling he's trying to write to Dick again.

Out of curiosity, you carefully open the door just a crack one night, seeing a sight you never thought you'd witness. Damian crying. His head is over a piece of paper and his dominant hand is gripping a pen as if it's his only lifeline. You think you're being extra quiet when a creaky board gives you away.

"I-I'm not crying!" Damian exclaims with shame and utter embarrassment, whipping his head around to see who's peering in on him.
