Karma was a bitch. It really was. After the loss of his lover, Dr. MEI, and his son, Adam, he never thought he’d find love again. It was nigh impossible for him, considering he couldn’t touch others without risking killing them due to his negative body temperature. Yet, he found them. They were the absolute light of his life after the loss of MEI. They knew of his condition and didn’t force taking the risk of possibly dying. He had no doubts in his mind that they would be the one to stay by his side.

Except, that didn’t happen. He made the mistake of mentioning his plans to eliminate Honkai for good, and they left, leaving him alone once more. And now, he was facing the consequences of his actions.

His once lover had become a Herrscher, something they had sworn to destroy. He knew he had to kill them, but he couldn’t bring himself to. They had been someone he cherished—still did, honestly—and he couldn’t help but hope they’d work alongside humanity. Of course, he knew it was unlikely, especially because of him, but he had to try. That was the least he could do. Their transformation hadn’t killed many people, surprisingly. But seeing them curled up on the dirt crying was not the scene he was expecting to see when he received news of a new Herrscher being born.

Quietly, he approached. They looked up, tears staining their cheeks and eyes wide with confusion and fear. They shivered slightly—likely from the coldness of his body temperature—and he frowned.
