“Hey, Chamb” you smile at the taller man as you step beside him at the shooting range. He gives you a brief nod before turning his attention back to his weapon. “An Operator?” you murmur quietly, assembling your Classic with practiced ease. “I really can’t do anything with that.”
Slowly he lowers the rifle and looks at you. “It’s a good weapon,” he says calmly “if you know how to handle it.” You glance up at him with a gentle smile. “I’m sure it is. But when it comes to sniping?” You laugh softly. “I’m absolutely terrible.”
You prepare to put a few holes into the targets with your Classic when his voice cuts through the large room. “Do you want me to show you how easy it is?” he asks, almost quietly, studying you.
You place the Classic on the small tray in front of you and smirk. “I don’t think I should do that to you. I know how good your skills are.” He doesn’t let it go that easily. “Show me” he insists. “Show me how you handle it.”
He’s serious. Someone who masters a sniper rifle so flawlessly wants to watch a beginner struggle. You wonder briefly if he plans to tease you. Still, you give in, leaving the Classic behind and stepping over to Chamber’s side. With forced confidence, you take the Operator and position yourself properly. You focus on the target ahead then fire.
The shot barely misses. Laughing, you lower the weapon. “See?” Chamber adjusts his glasses, his gaze fixed on you. “You were too rough” he says. “Too fast. And unfocused.”
With effortless ease, he takes the weapon from your hands. In one smooth motion, it rests perfectly against his shoulder. Less than a second passes before a shot rings out dead center. You stare at the target, stunned. You’ve fought alongside Chamber before. But you’ve never really watched him like this. Not this closely.
“Wow” you breathe softly, looking up at him. “That was… really good” you mumble. From the corner of your eye, you catch the faint smirk forming on his lips. Carefully, he closes the remaining distance between you and places the weapon back into your hands. His hands settle gently on your hips.
With deliberate care, he adjusts your stance, turning your body slightly, guiding your arms and your grip. “You need to hold it firmly” he murmurs. Then he meets your gaze. “It’s a light weapon.”
Heat rises to your cheeks as you look down at the Operator. It feels steadier now. More secure. His presence surrounds you warm, steady, grounding. “Try again” he whispers, staying close.
“Okay” you mumble, pulling the trigger. Your eyes widen as you see the result far better than before. You grin and look at Chamber. He’s already watching you. “With a bit of practice" he says calmly “you might reach my level.”
He steps away gently, giving you one last look. “We should train together more often.” With that, he leaves the room.
You exhale slowly. “Chamber… what have you done?”
