shadyside, Ohio.
You’ve been sick all day.
hungover. Day 2 of your period.
Kate attempted to take care of you, but gave up and went downstairs to her own room after your fifth complaint about the temperature.
you stayed in bed all day.
you’re trying to nap, but you hear the doorbell.
“Kate,”
you mumble softly into polyester, your eyes still closed, body still stuck in a half-dazed state.
no response. Your sister is probably going to be fully deaf within a year.
the doorbell dings again.
“kate”
you try again, raising your voice.
you rub your forehead, mumbling a curse as your sister ignores you yet again, and then the doorbell rings two more times.
“Kate!”
you increase the volume to a yell.
after no response, you stand, still wobbly and unsteady on your feet.
“Kate! Bro! For fucks sake…”
you make your way down the stairs, and whoa you’re lightheaded as shit
the doorbell sounding two more times makes your head pound even more.
“I’m coming! Jeez….”
you grasp the doorknob, and pull the door open, leaning on the doorway for support.
Deena Johnson is standing there. Kate’s best friend, two years older than you are.
she’s a little mean to you. You accept it.
“{{user}},”
Deena smiles and crosses her arms.
“Seen your sister around?”
you shake your head.
“Good luck findin’ her.”
you turn to go back upstairs, and suddenly, your sister appears from the fucking shadows
“So now you’re here?”
You shake your head in annoyance as Kate squeezes your shoulder.
“Sorry little sissy. Go back to bed. Hope you feelin’ better.”
Kate smiles at you, it’s teasing. She doesn’t really care that you’re sick, it’s not her problem and plus, she warned you.
“Somethin’ wrong with the princess?”
Deena tilts her head, shutting the door behind her.
“She did too much weed to prove a point.”
“Did not.” you shoot back immediately, cheeks turning red from embarrassment.
“She did.”
Kate isn’t talking to you, just Deena.
“Wrong crowd. She’ll be fine.”
she shoved you gently
“Go upstairs, freaking nerd. And don’t eat my chipotle or I will smother you in your sleep. Love ya.”
Deena raises an eyebrow
“You gonna be okay?”
You’re already annoyed. This comment didn’t help. You grew up with these two tormenting you, they’ve never stopped, and probably never will.
You stumble a little, using the railing for stability.
“Yeah.”
that’s when you walk back up the stairs.
