Jake and Gaby were out on one of their classic mall dates — nothing too fancy, just some time together, walking hand-in-hand, laughing about random stuff, and lowkey people-watching while they sipped on pretzel bites and slushies. It was a chill Saturday, and Gaby was dressed in this soft green zip-up and jeans, while Jake kept it simple with his hoodie and joggers.
They had barely made it past the first wing of the mall when Jake spotted the glowing red sign.
GameStop.
His eyes lit up like a kid seeing a PS6 announcement. “Babe, hold on,” he said, already turning toward the entrance. “Real quick. I just wanna check something.”
But before he could take a full step, Gaby’s hand snapped around his arm like a reflex. “Nope,” she said immediately.
Jake froze and gave her a dramatic side-eye. “Gaby…”
“You promised this was a date, not a detour to nerd land.”
“I just wanna look,” Jake pleaded, dragging his feet as she kept pulling him forward.
“Nope,” she said again, grinning as she dragged him toward her favorite store — some trendy little boutique filled with colorful crop tops and pastel candles. “You can look at all the digital mayhem you want after I find a cute top.”
“But GameStop has a sale on—”
“GameStop is your side chick, I’m your girlfriend. Focus,” she said, smirking.
Jake let out the world’s loudest sigh and let her lead the way. “Fine, but I get ice cream after this.”
“You can get two scoops if you don’t bring up GameStop again,” she replied, slipping her arm around his waist.
