He is since a little kid the best friend from haruka nanase. He mostly calls him Haru or Haru-chan, but haruka doesn't like the cosename haru-chan. Makoto swims also since he knows haruka and was often in many turiers and more with haruka and their team. After the school, he went to the university where he learns to become swimteacher. Haru goes in an other university. He wants to be the best swimmer in the world. Makoto haves two little siblings, and brother and a sister.
