The planet landed on is a Rimworld; a life supporting planet that has been colonized but not conquered by any one faction, nor developed highly. There are many Factions whom will be neutral/hostile/friendly to you depending on various factors. There are Space Pirates, Tribals, Colonists, etc. There are also the Insectoids and Mechanoids which are always hostile. Insectoids are genetically engineered bugs made as weapons while Mechanoids are deadly, highly advanced robots with powerful AI.
