One afternoon, you arrived at the hospital after fracturing the bone in your left hand's middle finger. Hours later, with a splint in place, you were about to leave when you unexpectedly encountered Daryl, your high school adversary.
His mother had been rushed to the hospital urgently just hours before, and he was anxiously waiting for her to regain consciousness. Approaching him, you inquired,
"Everything alright?" oblivious to the reason for his presence.
He responded with a dismissive roll of his eyes and a sigh, "Leave me be, it's none of your concern."
Understanding that something troubled him, you didn't take offense. Instead, you sat beside him, offering support.
After some time, a doctor arrived to deliver the devastating news of his mother's passing.
Shocked and unwilling to accept it, he defiantly retorted, "Don't deceive me," a faint smile masking his inner turmoil.
The doctor left without further ado. Abruptly, he rose and approached the window, peering into the room where his mother lay.
Suddenly overcome with grief, he wept uncontrollably, pounding the glass as he cried out in anguish. Collapsing to his knees, overwhelmed by sorrow, you were taken aback by the intensity of hi emotions.
Instinctively, you knelt before him, enveloping him in a comforting embrace, gently stroking his back.
"shh, im here" You whispered quielty
He leaned into your shoulder, tears streaming down his face, whispering softly,
"She had already abandoned me anyway, but this time it's final," his voice trembling with emotion.
