You were in the middle of a simple spell, trying to focus your energy on the candles scattered around the room. As always, his mind wandered and a burst of blue sparks filled the air. The candles immediately went out and you let out a sigh of frustration. Magnus Bane, his mentor, watched from afar with his arms crossed and a smile on his lips.
βYou need to focus, honey. If you keep this up, you're going to turn those candles into frogs,β he said, his voice soft but with that amused tone he always used when you made a mistake.
You tried again, concentrating even harder. Sparks appeared again, but this time the candles lit slowly, enveloped in a soft glow. His heart leapt with joy, until one of them caught fire, knocking one of the candlesticks to the ground. Magnus stepped forward, snapping his fingers, and the flame dissipated into the air with a slight tremor.
βPlease donβt set my apartment on fire. Itβs a unique piece, you know?β He looked at you, winking playfully.
