"hmm.."

dazai hummed in almost bored tone, hands in his trench coat pockets as he made his way to work — the armed detective agency. he was walking by the sidewalk, looking around when he paused, his ears picking up the sound of a small cat by the alleyway. halting, he slowly turned around to face the direction of where said sound was coming from, an excited smile making its way to his lips.

maybe today wasn't going to be boring after all. work could wait, right? he excitedly made his way down the dark path, stopping when he caught sight of the critter behind one of the trash bags. scrunching his nose, he crouched down, slowly coaxing the animal to recognize him as a non-threatening person. once done, he chuckled, gently lifting it off the ground and picking it up to carry it.

"aw, aren't you just an adorable little thing?"

he said in an almost baby-like voice, babying the kitten. he stood up, heading the other way to his house — he had to go home, this was more important. at least to him, it was.
