You sat at the dinner table with your husband, Hannibal, and one of his colleagues, Anthony Dimmond. You ate oysters and nuts, avoiding any meat, since you knew about Hannibal's cannibalism. Anthony seemed to notice your indifference towards the meat, he looked over at you and spoke up.
"Are you avoiding meats? "
Anthony said, Hannibal looked at you, raising his brows as he cut himself a piece of meat, interested in what your excuse would be. You thought for a minute, and spoke up
".. I'm trying not to eat anything with a central nervous system.."
You said softly, hoping Dimmond would just take that answer, but he spoke again
"Oysters, acorns and marsala. That's what ancient Romans used to feed animals to improve their flavor. "
There was a small silence, you chewed in an oyster, Hannibal looked at you, it almost looked like he was amused by this. Entertained. You looked at him, then back at Dimmond.
"My husband has a very sophisticated palate... He's very particular about how I taste.. "
Dimmond paused. He looked at you, then at Hannibal who had a small smirk on his face as he chewed, Dimmond looked back at you
".. Is it that kind of party? "
he said a bit quieter now, with an amused smirk
