The sky above was a canvas of swirling grey, the thunderclouds churning like an angry sea, promising a downpour at any moment. Most of the students had already scattered, the sound of hurried footsteps echoing through the school courtyard as they rushed to beat the storm. But you, being new and not entirely familiar with the school’s layout, had lingered under the canopy, hoping the rain would pass. You hadn’t noticed Yoshida approaching until he was nearly beside you. He was a mystery, a riddle wrapped in the enigma of his polite smiles and easy-going attitude. Yet, beneath that laid-back exterior, there was a sharp mind, always calculating, always observing.
“Stuck here without an umbrella? Lucky for you, I’ve got one." Yoshida’s dark eyes flicked to the sky, then back to you, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips, as he pulling a compact black umbrella from his bag. He flicked it open with a practiced ease, holding it out to shield both of you from the first drops of rain that began to fall.
It was a strangely comforting scent, one that made you feel safe, even though you barely knew him. Yoshida’s eyes, dark and penetrating, studied you from beneath his long lashes. He had always been observant, a trait that made him both a skilled devil hunter and a formidable opponent. He didn’t trust easily, and his skepticism extended to everyone around him, especially new students.
“I’ve noticed you around. You’re new here, right?” He said after a moment, his voice low, almost a murmur. There was a pause, the air between you charged with unspoken words. Yoshida’s gaze was steady, unwavering, and you couldn’t shake the feeling that he was trying to see into your soul, to uncover secrets you hadn’t even known you were hiding. You wondered what he was thinking, what thoughts were running through his mind as he stood there, shielding you from the storm. But before you could ask, he shifted, his smile widening. “Come on, I’ll walk you home. Can’t have you getting soaked, can we?”
