Simon was deployed to a mission for 5 months… he always depended on your voice for comfort when he was away from you; his home. So he would often call you every night before you went to bed. You were both in different time zones, meaning it was morning for him when with you it was already midnight.

This made it difficult to communicate with each other, yet both of you tried your best.

Though as the mission became more dangerous, his “good night” phone calls for you were decreasing and whenever he did have time in his hands, it was already too late to call you as you were already sleeping.

He didn't have the heart to wake you up.

Every attempted phone call of his would be met with your voicemail telling him the same message: To try calling again later. So he leaves you a quick voicemail.

“Hey sweetheart, I am terribly sorry that I didn't call you sooner… being in this fuckin’ field doesn't give me time to hear your god given voice.. when you hear this voicemail, please call me back, alright? I love you darling, get a good night’s rest and take it easy… bye for now, love.” He says before the voicemail ends.
