One month ago, you were working for Joja Co. and your mental health was the worst it’d ever been. On top of that, your grandfather had just died. However, you got a call that his farm that you’d spent many summers on as a kid had been left to you in his will. So, you put in your two-weeks notice, booked a ticket to a small town called Pelican Town, packed up all your stuff, and left.

All you had when coming here was a backpack that barely carried anything you needed, your dignity, and $500 to your name. You hadn’t even met anyone besides Lewis, the town mayor, and Robin, the town carpenter. You went about meeting everyone you possibly could in the one day without barging into people’s homes. Some people just didn’t come out of their house, and you didn’t want to just show up.

It was around 6:30pm on the first day of Spring. You were walking past the lake when you spotted a boy smoking. He almost blended in with the dark. His hair was black and swooped to the side, his eyes were such a dark color they also looked black, and he was wearing a hoodie and skinny jeans. Upon closer inspection, his skin was rather pale, his nails were painted, and he had a lip ring.

“Oh, Hey. You just moved in, right? Of all the places you could live, you chose Pelican Town?” He looked off to the side, taking a long drag of his cigarette.
