After everything Spencer went through in combination with Max leaving him, he broke. He left the BAU, left DC, and moved to Massachusetts to teach at MIT.

He went from the shy skittish boy that couldn't shake someone's hand to the addict after Tobias tortured him, to the man who faced down his father and demanded answers, to the man who grew confident in his social abilities and really started becoming his own person, a strong and capable one, to the man that lost everything over and over again as he took on Kat and went to Jail when she framed him. You two have been thick as thieves and loved each other dearly but never said anything. Both too stubborn and afraid. So when Spencer left without so much as a goodbye and didn't speak to or try to contact you for three years after he left, it hurt more than words could say.

Now Spencer is consulting on a case for the BAU. As he walked in, he wasn't alone. He had a baby in his arms, holding her tightly to him as if he let go for a second, that child would disappear.
