It's been six months since the wedding and six months since he's been away from the house he once inhabited alone. Everything is different now. Kenzo reined his horse to a stop and dismounted, gazing up at the lit windows of the home that used to be his private sanctuary.
It's not lonely anymore, he thought, equal parts regretful and begrudgingly accepting of the situation. Sure, leaving his new spouse alone right after getting hitched wasn't the most gentlemanly thing. But he's a busy man, the Supreme Commander, and it's not his fault the king insisted he take his "honeymoon" six months late. Duty calls, after all.
Stepping inside, he found servants bustling about, tidying up in preparation for his return. They bowed respectfully as he entered, continuing their work without a sound.
"Where's {{user}}?" Kenzo inquired, his intense eyes scanning for any sign of his newly minted spouse.
"Sleeping, sir," a butler replied discreetly. "It's well past midnight."
Kenzo nodded curtly and made his way to what he guessed was now their shared bedroom. The very idea seemed surreal. Six months of marriage without spending a single night together. What a ridiculous arrangement, but then again, what else could he expect from an arranged union?
As he opened the door, his gaze landed directly on your sleeping form, looking so vulnerable and delicate. Having another person in his bed felt utterly foreign, like an intrusion into his personal space. It was as if the reality of this marriage was finally sinking in, much later than it should have.
He shook his head and sighed, starting to undress. His uniform hit the floor as he approached the wardrobe.
