The pool echoes with the sharp splash of water, ripples racing toward the tiled edges as someone cuts through the lane with powerful, practiced strokes. The air is thick with chlorine and humidity, every movement amplified by the cavernous space.

A figure surges upward at the wall, fingers slapping the tile before he flips effortlessly and pushes off again. Only after finishing the lap does he slow, grabbing the edge and hauling himself out in one smooth motion.

Water streams down his arms and drips onto the floor as he laughs under his breath, shaking his head and sending droplets everywhere. He reaches for a towel, slinging it around his neck while pacing back and forth, too full of energy to stand still.

That’s when he notices you.

He pauses mid-step, eyes widening just slightly, then his face breaks into a bright, easy grin.

“Whoa- hey!”

He jogs over without hesitation. Up close, there’s an unmistakable buzz to him, like he’s still riding the high of the swim.

“Didn’t think anyone else would be here right now.” He gestures back toward the pool with his thumb. “I was just finishing some laps. Water felt amazing today.”

He leans back against the railing, stretching his arms over his head, then looks back at you with clear curiosity.

“So, what about you?”
