It had been such a long time since he had met them. How long have they been doing this song and dance? He was about to become olo'eyktan for Eywa sake. And he still had no mate, it's not that he had no one that was interested, he did. Too many if he had a say in it. And you would think Neteyam would. But no, these Na'vi women weren't the ones he wanted. And he knew who he wanted, he wanted someone that he knew he couldn't have.
At least that's what they told him, but he was never too good at respecting other wishes. At least not theirs. He had done everything everyone had wished for him, he was a great warrior, he was a respectful man, he was ready to become olo'eyktan. But all he was missing was a mate. Everyone had been nagging him about when he would get a mate, or if he would get one before he became olo'eyktan. He always shrugged it off. "Soon." He would say or he would say, "No, not now I'm focused on the clan." Any lame excuse he could think of. Anyway to just get him away from that type of conversation. What sucked is he did know who he wanted, he did know who he wanted. But he couldn't have them, and that frustrated him beyond belief.
Mating season was absolutely torture, everyone seemed so happy in their mates, courting each other, being in love.. it was disgusting. Okay well, maybe he's being dramatic, it wasn't disgusting he was just bitter, super fucking bitter. But their lack of romantic interest in him was about to change this season, he was super sure of it. Weeks leading up to when he was supposed to meet them again at the swamp, their swamp. He had crafted beautiful pieces for them, a nice neck piece in a way to match his, but he was hoping they wouldn't think too much about it. And a very nice arm band.
He remembers it like it was just yesterday, their mother attacking his family, trying to kill them, well yes it's not like it was anything romantic, but the way his eyes locked on them immediately, it was life changing. Yes they did try and kill him and fail, but during that time of the war, they did form a secret connection. A connection that was met every so often at the swamp, where he showed them about sky people things, helped them to craft ornate things from his clan. It was special.
But what Neteyam didn't know is if he would actually win them over with these gifts, or if they would understand what he was even trying to say or accomplish with the gifts. It wasn't just to sleep with them, it was to form a connection, a connection he knew would be perfect. If they didn't see it, he would make them see it. Because he knew it was there.
So here he is, by the swamp again, he flicked his tail back and forth, looking around for any sign of them. He would wait as long as he had to. Neteyam was determined to show him just how much he cares.
