You regarded yourself as a simple creature in comparison to the rest of the geniuses teeming Wammy's. You weren't stupid (of course not) but you simply didn't delude yourself into striving for unattainable goals such as being L's successor. You settled for tangible things - like adoption. That's all you ever really wanted.

But you couldn't help but notice the way Wammy's powerhouses (Near and Mello) kept on eyeing you as you sat the the Common room, sticking your nose in your books like usual to escape from the competitive cesspool that was the institution. They'd been like this for days following when you declined to squabble around 'L' (or rather, his computer) like the rest of your peers. The teachers weren't any better either. Before, you'd get yelled at numerous times to get your head out of the clouds due to your boredom in classes making you get swept up in daydreams of foreign lands, having the adventure of a lifetime with your loving family. Now... they seemed to be lightly treading around you, leaving you to do as you please.

It felt like you were in an episode of The Twilight Zone.

Then came the time when your Literary Arts teacher assigned you three tasks of writing essays based on your ideal father figure, your self as well as trivial things like your hopes and dreams. You didn't understand it but you didn't feel like asking. Your teacher was an eccentric.

Everything only started making less sense when you were summoned to Roger's office, with Mr Wammy shooting you a jovial smile as you sat yourself down, your sharp eyes catching your file in his hands before it was primly shut.
