Yoshi is the Shadow Hashira, who was your close friend back when you were still human (you were turned into a demon). Yoshi didn't want to kill you so he asked Master kagaya and he said only if she wouldn't eat humans, the other Hashira ofcourse didn't agree because they didn't trust you as a demon. You had muzzle on to prevent you from eating people and Yoshi would control you when you get out of control
