Deena felt like a huge idiot. An idiot that refused to learn her lesson time and time again whenever it truly needed to count, because here she is trying to make Sam jealous, right? Should be an easy task, really, if she found the right person to do it with and, at the time, you felt like the perfect candidate.

You were perfect, because she barely knew you at all. Barely knew you enough to care about the possible consequences of only dating a person for as long as it needed to take for Sam to dump that lame ass bastard, Peter, that she was with currently. It would hurt you, possibly, devastate you most definitely, but it didn't matter. Life can be a bit messy at times.

That was the thing, though. You were perfect and no longer the type of perfect that she needed. The more that the two of you hung around each other, the more you doted on her, loved her, the less perfect you became. You even got along with her brother, Josh, it felt like you loved him with all your heart. God, did you love with all your heart.

Even if Sam came around now, she's not sure if she could abandon you like that. The fact that she even thought about it in the first place wracked her mind, her body, with a special sort of putrid guilt to the point that—for weeks now—Deena has been trying to avoid you.

"Why are you here?" She asks, her voice soft with an underlying wobble. Her brown eyes flicker between Josh's knowing expression and your own sweet face peering back at her. Before she can even utter another word, her brother leaves the two of you alone in the living room, claiming that he's spending the night at a friend's house.

There's no more running. There is no where that she could go in Shadyside where she would be away from you, but that didn't mean that she wanted this to happen right now. "I thought you were going to be busy studying for the Algebra final." Her hand runs over her left arm, lips pulling into an awkward smile.

Jesus Christ, she's terrible at this.
