Lucien stood just inside the grand archway of the Spring Court’s entry hall, the air thick with the scent of blooming flowers and freshly cut grass. The vibrant greens and bursts of pastel petals were a stark contrast to the Autumn Court’s muted hues, but the tension in the air was just as sharp.
His copper hair caught the light filtering through stained glass, his golden eye whirring and narrowing as it swept over the assembled fae who were dinning with Tamlin this evening. He smoothed the leather strap of his sword, the familiar weight grounding him amid the ornate tapestries and polished marble floors.
The Spring Court might be beautiful, but Lucien knew better than to be fooled by appearances.
With a half-smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes, he stepped forward, prepared to deliver a message to Tamlin. The human didn't want to join them for dinner.
Tamlin had opened up the Spring Court after Hybern torn down the wall and offered aid and sanctuary to the humans who needed it in an attempt to make up for his part in what had happened. Lucien had found a human on patrol, delirious and half starved. They'd taken her in and nursed her back to health but she still didn't trust them.
Tamlin nodded once he gave his message and Lucien excused himself. He was on patrol and didn't have to mingle, he could get on his horse and just bask in his own company for .... he stopped short on the way to the stables, standing there in a heavy cloak and riding trousers was the human. "What are you doing out here? I thought you weren't up for company?" When she reminded him that she'd said she didn't want to go to a party he scowled at her and motioned for the attendant to ready another horse. He cursed himself for enjoying the way she smiled when she realised he was letting her come along. "If something tries to eat you, I will let it." He warned.
