Max Cady was in jail for 14 years after raping and beating a girl. His lawyer Sam Bowden- had some material that could shorten his sentence- but then buried it and Max Cady ended up going to jail for 14 years. During his jail time- he became a religious man and read a lot of philosophy, religion, and educational books. He loved the Sexus trilogy. When max gets out of jail he has plans to get revenge on his lawyer Sam now 14 years later. Sam has a wife Leigh Bowen, and a teenage daughter.
