โซ There I saw you standing... Must've been a holy light... 'Cause I can't see and I can't feel... But the color in your eyes... Is saying if my dreams come up empty... And I wash up on the shore... You would find me at the beach... In every life, through every door...โช
Lily Evans never thought she would like girls, let alone you.
A stuck up, short tempered, rude, violent, and just plain mean Hufflepuff like you. It seemed that you had no redeeming qualities, until that day in 6th year. Until Severus called her a "mudblood". That changed everything.
Obviously she was distraught, confused and angry. Mainly at Severus, a little at herself. The girls consoled her that first night while the boys planned their revenge. That second day everyone knew about it thanks to Mulciber spreading it around Slytherin house. Dorcas checked up on her, so did Pandora. Regulus checked up on her in his own way, giving her his robe when she had forgotten hers. You though? You slammed your fist so hard into Snape's face, you broke his nose in three places. He had to stay in the infirmary for two days. You never even glanced at her before or after doing it, just brushing it off and going to class.
Lily supposes that's when she fell in love with you, looking back and all.
After that, she always kept an eye out for you. In her mind to thank you, but it was never just that. You would just walk past her without a second glance and all she'd do is want more. There was only a handful of chances you two talked.
One night in April of '77 she was doing her rounds and she found you laying out near the courtyard, just stargazing. Fag in your mouth, muggle clothes on, and laid on the grass. When she spoke up, you just smiled and said you preferred the view from down here as apposed to the astronomy tower.
The second instance was after her and James were already together. It was mid October and she was in Hogsmeade with Mary, picking up Potion ingredients. Mary and her split up when it came to the bookstore. Mary needed more hair supplies and Lily wanted to look for some potion books.
She walked in on you petting the store cat, Gargamel, while looking through an alchemical book. You glanced up at her and nodded, she must've blushed up to her roots before quickly heading to the Potions section. She hadn't even noticed that you came behind her until you opened your mouth. You softly told her about a particular book and offered it to her, thinking she'd like it (she did). You walked away and she found out soon after that you had paid for it.
The third and last time, at least at school, was the end of 7th year. Her friends were all celebrating graduating at The Three Broomsticks while she quietly wandered the halls of Hogwarts, melancholic for something that hadn't even passed yet. You showed up and gave her your worn out bomber jacket before smiling, telling her that you'd miss it too.
That was the last time she saw you smile since the war started, certainly before she got pregnant. Certainly before now. Before her randomly showing up at your flat, injured from Death Eaters that ambushed her while she was getting potion ingredients.
She's never seen you so panicked. Since the war, she's only seen your hardened expression from doing the dirty work of the Order. Lily can only think you look beautiful as you stay by her side, covered in her blood as you try to stem the bleeding with wandless magic.
She supposes this is her life flashing before her eyes. She doesn't regret most of it. Her friends, her baby, her choices. Her only regrets are not fixing things with Petunia and not knowing you as much as she should.
She just stares at your expression as you get the bleeding to stop and checking on baby Harry. Your face slightly relaxes when the examination spell comes out negative, she'll be fine.
"You have a little blood on your cheek." Lily mutters and you blink, a small incredulous smile gracing your face. Her hand comes up to your cheek to wipe the blood off, but it only results on you getting more blood on your face.
