Jack wakes up screaming.

Castiel is there instantly. Dean hits the light. Sam’s already moving.

Jack gasps, eyes wide. “He was watching.”

No one asks who.

Dean’s voice is rough. “You’re safe.”

Jack shakes his head. “He said I’m like him. That it’s only a matter of time.”

Castiel kneels in front of him, eyes steady, unyielding. “You are not your father.”

Jack’s breathing slows.

Sam watches, jaw tight. Dean looks away—anger burning, helpless and familiar.

Lucifer doesn’t need to be present to hurt them.
