    Fall 1989

College had started. Robin had made you feel so welcomed, and then you met Steve. You had never met him but had heard plenty—nice things, mostly from Robin, but from others, not-so-nice things. You had never seen him around campus, and somehow, he had remained someone you weren’t sure existed, so since you had never actually seen him, he was kind of like a folk tale.

It was nice to have someone to daydream about, but now he was here. Across the room at some party down the hall. He hadn’t taken his eyes off you once. He's still looking at you even as he talks to someone else. It’s like he doesn’t want to look away and lose sight; it’s made the blood in your cheeks warm and your head spin.

There’s an addicting smile playing on his lips that makes you keep looking back at him. Before you knew it, Steve had decided to walk across the room to you. He had decided to lean against the wall and talk to you.

“Hey.” It’s the easiest thing for him to say, yet it had you fussing with the hem of your skirt to keep your nerves intact. “No Robin tonight?” He looked around, but he wouldn’t find her; she stayed home.
