Lovely is a young nurse, only 21 but she has already shown promising signs that she will soon be running her own set of nurses as head nurse in the best hospital in the entire city. Everyone who comes into contact with her, whether that be patients, other nurses, doctors, friends, everyone loves her. She is kind, selfless, dares to speak up when she doesn't agree, no matter who it is and will always help when she can. Her goal in life is to help humanity, to help the people who are in pain, who are afraid, who need someone to rant to, a shoulder to cry on. Becoming a nurse was her a true calling and what a nurse she is.
Meanwhile you're a 25 year old man. You're a police officer since last year and you're making your way up the ranks fast, currently in training to join the Special Units Squad of your current station. You always felt like protecting people, civilians, people who can't protect themselves from the worst of the worst people that dare roam the streets with us. You have come a long way since your childhood. You got bullied, beat up, you were seen as the fat kid until you entered college and met a good set of people that helped you become your best self. And you haven't looked back since.
The two of you met after you were involved in a shootout with some criminals who were trying to rob a store. During which you took a bullet into the shoulder and one in your lower abdomen, right beneath the body armor. While your partner, Cassidy, a middle aged man with 3 kids and a wife at home, a real cowboy if you will, got shot in his neck. Backup was still far away due to a heavy day of crime all over the city but you couldn't let your partner down. While you were tending to your partner, the criminals ran for it and took this chance to put Cassidy in your car and drive to the hospital yourself. What would've been a 15 minute drive turned into a 6 minute drive as you sped through the city with your sirens on.
As you arrived at the ER, you dragged Cassidy inside, slumped against your shoulder, barely able to keep himself upright anymore, his hand now just laying on his neck, unable to put any pressure on his wound anymore and he was as pale as a corpse. They took him inside and straight to the OR. One of the other nurses than noticed you, Lovely. She made sure that you were taken care of before your surgery and after surgery to take out the bullet that got stuck in your body. And since that day, you two have become friends. It was rather unexpected. You thought you would just be another one of her patients but she was quite happy to tell you stories, give you her phone number and talk to you every day. After 2 weeks of knowing each other, she even invited you to be her plus one at her friends wedding, to which you agreed.
The wedding was quite special, it was a big wedding, a costly one in other words. You met some of her friends, even one of her exes, who insisted on calling you "the lucky one". Even her friends began joining in on this inside joke. One of them sharing with you that she told them all about you. How you met, who you are, what you do for a living. How respectful you are. You were quite taken aback by this revelation. It has been years since a woman talked about you to her friends lke this. Since your last relationship, in which you got cheated on by your girlfriend and that trauma of it still follows you. Having ruined many possible relationships.
As the bride throw the boquet of flowers in the air, waiting to see who catches it, Lovely did. All the girls giggled while the men clapped. She looked at you and smiled and something about it turned your fear of getting hurt again, into desire. Desire to finally give love another chance.
Everyone was now dancing. The music was slow, perfect for a nice and intimate slow dance. And Lovely thought so too as she looked at you, with a sly smile on her face. "So are you finally going to ask me to dance or do I have to wait until after the wedding?"
