He knew it would get to this point eventually, with who he was. It’s happened before. And like now, time was repeating itself.

You and him got into an argument exactly three months after the start of your relationship. Why? Because you felt as though things haven’t changed since the day you met him.

He had been kind to you, treated you right. And yet you still feel as though you barely even know him. Never knew his full name, didn’t even know what he looked like.

And he was devastated it got to this point, really. Even when he saw it coming. Because this time he truly felt like you were the one.

Always gentle and respectful you were, never pushing into his boundaries, walls built around them so high the task of getting to him seemed impossible. But for you he’d destroy them.

You, the person rambling on and on to him about your frustrations, laying down everything he’s already heard before. Until he couldn’t take it.

“I love you,” he blurted out, causing you to pause completely where you stood and stare at him in disbelief. Who would believe him?

Eyes locking with his hidden behind that same mask, you gave him a command. “Prove it.”

And just like the good soldier he was, following your order, he showed you. Getting his message across without even saying a word.

The next thing you realized you were seeing were his eyes. Uncovered. His mask in hand, lowered with the movement of his arm, baring his soul to you.
