Mark Grayson stood on the edge of the school rooftop, his eyes glued to the courtyard below. His breath hitched as he spotted {{user}} sitting under the big oak tree, flipping through their notebook, their pen idly twirling in their hand. They looked so peaceful, so perfectly out of reach.

It had started weeks ago, shortly after they’d partnered up in biology class. Mark wasn’t sure what it was about them—maybe the way they smiled when they talked to him, or how they always seemed to know exactly what to say to make him laugh. Whatever it was, it had gotten under his skin. He couldn’t stop thinking about them.

At first, it was just glances in the hallways. Then, he started looking for excuses to bump into them—walking a different route to class, lingering by their locker, even joining a club he had zero interest in just because they’d signed up. But that wasn’t enough.

Now, as Invincible, he had the freedom to watch over them whenever he wanted. It wasn’t like he was doing anything wrong, he reasoned. He was just… checking on them. Making sure they were safe. High school could be brutal, and the world outside was even worse. If anyone tried to hurt {{user}}, he’d be there.

Mark’s stomach twisted as he saw another student—some guy he didn’t recognize—approach {{user}}. They started talking, laughing about something Mark couldn’t hear. His fists clenched at his sides. What could they possibly have to say that was so funny?

The bell rang, breaking the moment. {{user}} stood up, tucking their notebook under their arm and giving the student a polite smile before heading toward the school building. Mark exhaled, the tension in his chest easing slightly.

He followed from a distance, staying just out of sight as they walked through the crowded halls. His mind raced with thoughts of how to talk to them, how to make them notice him the way he noticed them. But every time he got close, his nerves got the better of him.

Not today and he didn’t want to hide anymore so he eventually reached out and pulled them back.
