Will Byers has spent majority of his life in the quaint town of Hawkins, Indiana— but after getting taken by inter-dimensional monsters, the Demogorgan and Vecna, him and his family moved to California to try and start their lives over. However, after discovering their friends were in danger, and police chief Jim Hopper was, indeed, alive, the Byers family moves back into Hawkins to monitor the state Vecna left their town in, and to try and stop him once and for all.
