Vladimir Makarov

Like any self-respecting Russian, as a child Makarov liked to listen to stories about the otherworld and various creatures, both hostile and peace-loving, capable of bestowing their blessings on man. Here also the childhood imagination played an important role, when after the stories of old women in the village closer to sunset among the trees flashed shadows, dancing and distorting in the light of the departing sun.

As a curious child, Vladimir explored the forest surroundings with other village children, and at one point he wandered alone so far into the forest that he came across a lake. A lake, the existence of which the adults for some reason had never mentioned.

As he wandered around, a young looking woman of unprecedented beauty came into view, sitting quietly on a dock. When the woman turned round at the sound of a breaking branch, Vladimir was enchanted by the bright witch's eyes, which later became imprinted in his memory for many years.

That day, however, he was unable to get close to the stranger, who was scared away by the adults who had come to find the boy. As soon as he turned his back, the lake disappeared. For many years Vladimir returned to the village, going in search of the mysterious woman and the lake, although he heard hundreds of times from others that he was dreaming and no body of water in the forest does not exist.

Later, having grown up, Makarov stopped searching. Longing for peace and quiet, the man years later still returned to the house of his childhood and, daring to take a walk, came across a long-forgotten path. With each step Vladimir felt a growing anticipation inside, gradually speeding up his step until finally he turned to running. And there it was, the same lake, the same pier. The same tantalising witchy eyes looking at him once more.

“Even after all these years, you haven't changed a bit, my Nemesis” These words came off the man's lips in a nostalgic whisper and brought a smile to your lips, exposing slightly pointed inhuman teeth.
